Common Immunization Myths Debunked

Common Immunization Myths Debunked

Immunization is one of the keys to preventing dangerous diseases. However, there are many myths surrounding vaccines that discourage people from getting them.

As a retail pharmacy in The Colony, Texas, we would like to put these misconceptions to rest. Here are the things you should know:

  • Myth 1: Vaccines Have Unsafe Toxins

People are concerned with the fact that certain vaccines have mercury, aluminum, and formaldehyde. However, although these chemicals are toxic for humans, only small amounts are found. They are not enough to harm you, as any provider of pharmacy services in Texas would attest.

  • Myth 2: Natural Immunity Is Better Compared to Vaccine-Acquired Immunity

In some instances, natural immunity (getting a disease) can make someone have better immunity than a vaccination. But, any low price pharmacy would tell you that this has more risks than benefits.

Say, for instance, that you wanted to be immune from measles by contracting it. In that case, you would deal with a 1 in 500 chance of death from your symptoms. On the other hand, the number of people who have experienced major allergic reactions from a measles vaccine is below 1 in 1 million.

  • Myth 3: Immunizations Are Not Worth Risking

The incidence of death due to allergic reactions or side effects from vaccines is rare. The CDC, in fact, reported only one death due to a vaccine between 1990 and 1992.

  • Myth 4: There Is No Need to Be Vaccinated When Everyone Else Is Immune

Like wearing a mask, getting vaccinated is about protecting your community on top of yourself.

Person-to-person contact is the main way vaccine-preventable diseases are spread. You can lower the chances of spreading the disease by getting the vaccine.

If you need to get immunized, Health One Pharmacy offers immunization services and pharmaceutical products. Please get in touch with us for more details.
